Guided Breathing Exercise
I share this the same way I'd offer you a glass of water at the start of a session: a small, steadying thing you can come back to whenever the day asks too much. Take a slow minute with me here; there's nowhere else to be.
Breathe with me
Breath is where every Reiki and sound session begins, and it's the one piece of the work you can carry home and use for yourself. Choose a pattern, then let the circle set the pace. Even breathing is the gentlest place to start. Let your shoulders drop, and stay as long as feels good: a single round, or ten.
A short tone marks each change of phase. Turning this on plays one quiet sample straight away. Sound is off every time you open this page.
A small thing that does a lot
When life speeds up, the breath is usually the first thing to go: shallow, held, half-forgotten. Slowing it down on purpose, even for a minute, is one of the simplest forms of stress relief we have. It needs no equipment, no experience, and no special place to do it.
A longer, slower out-breath is a quiet signal to the body that it's safe to soften. This is often where a little anxiety relief begins, not by pushing a feeling away but by giving yourself something steady and kind to follow instead.
That steadiness is really the whole point. A slow, even rhythm helps calm the nervous system, easing you out of go-go-go and into the slower gear where rest lives. Many people notice their jaw unclench, their thoughts space out a little, their breathing deepen on its own.
It's the same shift I hold space for in a Reiki or sound session. I've simply put a small piece of it here, so it's always within reach when you need to find your way back to yourself.

If this brought you some ease, a full Reiki and sound session goes further
An hour on the table is this same feeling, held for you and deepened: nothing to do, nowhere to be, just rest and release.
Book your sessionThe research behind each pattern
This tool is free, and it is here because the research behind it is genuinely lovely to read. Amanda's practice is Reiki and sound therapy rather than medicine, so rather than tell you what to do, these notes describe what each study actually measured, and link to it, so you can read it yourself and choose what feels right for you.
- The physiological sigh and box breathing. Balban and colleagues randomised 108 adults to five minutes a day of one of three breathing practices or mindfulness meditation, for one month. The group doing exhale-focused cyclic sighing reported the largest improvement in mood and showed a greater reduction in breathing rate. Cell Reports Medicine, 2023
- Even breathing at about five and a half seconds. Work on resonance-frequency breathing finds that the oscillations in heart rate reach their largest amplitude when breathing near 0.1 Hz, roughly six breaths a minute, with each person's own resonance usually falling between 4.5 and 7 breaths a minute. Frontiers in Psychology, 2017
Gently is always enough. If you ever feel lightheaded, simply let your breath return to its own rhythm and rest a moment. And if you are pregnant, or you live with a heart or lung condition, a quick word with your doctor first means you can settle in without wondering.
